Buhoma Region

Bwindi Impenetrable National park in the south west of Uganda is a home to 400 out of 880 mountain gorillas that are currently thriving in the wild presenting a rich  ground from gorilla trekking safaris in Uganda. The park has four gorilla trekking regions namely the northern sector Buhoma, the eastern sector Ruhija, the southern sector Rushaga and the south western sector of Nkuringo which have got habituated gorilla families that have always been encountered by travellers on gorilla safaris in Uganda. The Buhoma sector is re-known as the pioneer of the gorilla trekking activity in Bwindi Forest National Park and Uganda in general. The sector was the first to host the first group of gorilla trekkers when Mubare gorilla family was opened for tracking in the year 1993. Uganda Game Reserves – Ajai Game Reserve Uganda

  Unlike the other Game Reserves, Ajai Game Reserve / Ajai wildlife reserve is located North-West of Uganda Safari district called Arua. The terrain elevation of the game reserve is claimed to be 658 meters above sea level. As per history, Ajai Game Reserve was put under the personal watch and protection of a local powerful leader by then named Ajai in the year 1937. Up to 1980 the game reserve has protected one of the less remaining populations of White Rhinos in Uganda, that are now extinct in this reserve. Several plans to reintroduce the Rhino in the country are underway and head by the Ugandan Government & Rhino Fund. The Mountain gorilla noted to be encountered on gorilla safaris in Uganda have fur that is thicker and extended in length than that of other gorilla species which gives them the capacity to thrive in colder temperatures. The Mountain gorillas are distinguished by the nose prints that are distinct to every individual. The male gorillas feature an average weight of 195 kg and stretch to 150 cm in height while standing upright and they at times weigh twice that of female gorillas. The female gorillas feature a mean weight of 100 kg and stretch to 130cm in height. The Mountain gorilla sub species are noted to be the second largest Primate Species second to Eastern Low land gorillas.
